Sweet Mail Art

I love the great art that June at A Creative Dream creates. Last month she asked her followers if they’d be interested in a mail art swap and she decided we would swap postcards. As a bonus for participating, June sent each of us one of her sweet works of art. Here’s the one I received:

Chunky ATC

I love the look and idea of chunky ATCs. Having four sides and the top to embellish is so much fun. Here’s the post about the one I made for a swap last year: Chunky Art ala Studio 490!

I’ve had this just sitting on my table for months. It was painted with Purple Twilight and Silver paint dabbers but otherwise it was bare. I decided to finish it for my friend, Linda. (I’m typing this post on Sunday evening and I’m meeting up with Linda tomorrow, I’ll give it to her then.)

Distressed Stencilling

This month’s challenge at the Inspiration Journal is Marvelous Masks and Spectacular Stencils. I recently created this piece using mostly Distress & Studio 490 products.

I started with a piece of mat board, I rounded the corners and cut a diamond mask with Eclipse Tape and dies. I colored the center with Mustard Seed Distress ink and the outer section with Shaded Lilac. I used Ranger Emboss It Dabber stamped through Studio 490 Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend stencil and then sprinkled on Broken China Distress Embossing Powder. After heating, cooling and rubbing off the release crystals, I stamped the flowers from Art Rules to frame the diamond with Deep Purple Archival Ink.

I stamped the lady and sentiment from A Flair for Art with black Archival Ink. I colored the image with Distress Markers, cut them out and used dimensional tape to adhere them to the background. I embellished with some items from my stash. I’ve since added a ribbon with my Tiny Attacher and hung the piece in my little art gallery corner.

Postcards – Sent & Received

I’ve been participating in an international postcard swap sponsored by the very creative Hanna. We send ten postcards and receive ten. I’ve had nine arrive in my mailbox. Each one is a unique little work of art.

I had fun creating backgrounds, stamping and adding various embellishments. I hope mine have arrived at their destinations, I’ve only had four confirmed.

Water Colored Blueprint

I needed a birthday card this week and so I pulled out my Tim Holtz Birthday Blueprint set. I stamped the cupcake with Ranger Archival black ink on my card and on water color paper. I used Distress Inks and water brushes to color the image on the water color paper. After I dried it with my heat gun, I cut the cupcake out and attached it to the card. I added some Stickles to the candle flame and icing. I stamped the sentiment from Tim’s Simple Sayings set.

The challenge this week over at Simon Says Stamp & Show is water. My water colored card meets the challenge.

Happy 5th Anniversary, Ink Stains!

Roni at Ink Stains is celebrating her blog’s fifth anniversary with a blog hop. She asked us to create an altered Altoid tin for the hop. I had never done one of these before so Roni sent me a couple of tins and a lot of encouragement. I made this tin as a gift for my son. I used images of my grandson from newborn to the present.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone is enjoying family time this weekend. Thirty-one years ago today I gave birth to my son. It wasn’t Thanksgiving day that year but he’s had a few times of celebrating being our family’s “little turkey!”

We’ll be taking him out to dinner on Saturday and so I wanted to create him a card. This week’s Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 29 at Studio L3 was the perfect technique. The Texture Fade Technique can be found on page 64 of Tim Holtz: A Compendium of Curiosities, Volume 2.

Challenge #19

I haven’t been doing a very good job of keeping up with the Compendium Of Curiosities Vol. 2 Challenges over at StudioL3 but Linda extended challenge 19 for an extra week so I made it! Challenge 19 is Kraft Resist – Tim Holtz: A Compendium of Curiosities 2, page 41.

I made a card for my grandson’s new second-grade teacher. He tells me she’s really, really nice!

Chunky Art ala Studio 490!

Over at the Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo Group we’re having a Chunky ATC swap.The recipient of mine is my friend, Eileen. Eileen creates fabulous art (check it out here) so I was a little nervous but with Wendy’s great stamps, Art Parts & Clearly for Art, I forged ahead! First thing I had to do was get my hands on some 2.5 inch pieces of a 2 x 4 – you’d think being in the wood product-rich Pacific Northwest that would be easy, but it took three lumber stores before I found one to help me out!

So after a bit of sanding and a coat of gesso, I got out the Paint Dabbers, Distress & Archival Inks to use with my Studio 490 supplies. Here’s the result.

It’s all packaged up and ready for its journey to Eileen’s home in the Bronx, NY. I hope she’ll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it for her. Let me know what you think.

We’re off to the local fair this evening to see/hear the Oak Ridge Boys! I’m looking forward to it.
