Back to School

Posted on

My grand kids are getting ready to start a new school year next week.  I’ve taken them each out to lunch and shopping.  Tomorrow will be time to finish my grandson’s shopping and getting a haircut.  Over at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog the theme for this week is Back to School.  I made each of the kids a card to wish them a successful school year.

I recently got Tim Holtz’ Hipster stamp set and the matching dies.  For Hailey’s card I used the ostrich:

For Tristan’s card I used the cat, I figured starting middle school makes him a cool cat:

I had fun coloring the hipsters and then cutting and layering the pieces.  I used a school-themed paper pad from my stash to create the backgrounds.  I used Ranger Enamel Accents and embossing powders to add color and shine.

Thanks for stopping by my long-neglected blog, I’d love to know what you think of my cards.

No trick, there will be treats!

I enjoy creating treat bags for my grandchildren for Halloween.  There are small toys, drawing supplies, healthy snacks and a bit of candy stuffed into the bags.  I made them each a card, too.

I used the (now discontinued) Accordion Album die from Sizzix to create the cards.

I used scraps, stickers and embellishments from my stash, plus some die cuts.  The Art with Art Challenge at Eileen Hull’s blog is Tricks and Treats, perfect for my album cards!  I encourage you to go have a look at all the great art that’s been submitted.

I’ll end my post with Happy Halloween wishes and a couple of photos of a witch doll I created four years ago.  She’s made with a wire armature and muslin body, head and limbs.  If you have any questions about her, ask away.

A Friendly Reminder

Posted on

It seems when my grandkids come for a visit, I’m always reminding them to brush their teeth.  I came across a cute clipart walrus and an idea formulated to create an art piece for them.

I started by scraping some gesso on an 8″ x 10″ canvas.  I used Distress Paints (Squeezed Lemonade, Scattered Straw & Mowed Lawn) to create a “drippy” background.

After the paint dried, I mixed some Studio 490 embossing paste with Wendy Vecchi (dandelion & carnation) Archival Ink re-inkers and stenciled a background.

I did some stamping over the embossing paste (forgot to take a picture) and my canvas was ready for the elements.  In addition to the walrus (with Liquid Pearls – White Opal tusks) , I used a clipart toothbrush and toothpaste tube.  I used Distress Paints to color some Grungeboard shapes and letters, then used Distress Glitter and Glossy Accents to punch them up.  I created words on my computer, cut them apart and edged with Black Soot Distress Ink.  Foam tape popped some of the elements up and the rest are glued to the canvas with Glossy Accents.

I just love how it turned out and can’t wait for Tristan and Hailey to see it.

Thanks for having a look and as always, I love your comments!
